Santa Ynez Fish Management Plan

Project Facilities

Project facilities include the Tecolote Tunnel, which conveys water from Lake Cachuma 6.4 miles through the Santa Ynez Mountains to the headworks of the South Coast Conduit in Goleta.  The tunnel has a diameter of seven feet and a capacity of 100 cubic feet per second.

The South Coast Conduit is a high-pressure concrete pipeline that extends from the Tecolote Tunnel outlet to the Carpinteria area, a distance of over 24 miles, and includes four regulating reservoirs described below.  The Sheffield Tunnel is located along the Conduit.  This mile-long concrete tunnel was bored through a high ridge within the city limits of Santa Barbara.  The South Coast Conduit extends through Sheffield Tunnel.

The four regulating reservoirs include:

  • Glen Anne Reservoir (currently restricted to 375 acre-feet), located on the West Fork of Glen Annie Canyon Creek below the outlet of Tecolote Tunnel in the Goleta Water District.

  • Lauro Reservoir (640 acre-feet), located on Diablo Creek outside the City of Santa Barbara boundary.

  • Ortega Reservoir (60 acre-feet), located within the Montecito Water District.

  • Carpinteria Reservoir (40 acre-feet), located within the Carpinteria Valley Water District.
